New Website: Fighting Breast Cancer
Karen (last name withheld) is a 30 year old Arizona woman who was recently diagnosed with Stage IV Breast Cancer. She has just launched a website that chronicles her fight with breast cancer and what it’s like to be a young woman with this disease.
At age 29, in early 2004, Karen found a small lump in her breast. It was just several days previous to her yearly appointment with her OB/GYN. She mentioned it to him and he examined the lump in question. The doctor decided that it was simply a “cyst” and that she had nothing to worry about. No mammogram or ultrasound was performed as the doctor believed that Karen was “too young to have breast cancer.”
Karen went home feeling as though she had nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, her doctor had been wrong- the lump was breast cancer. When Karen returned to her doctor the following year, (2005), she was given terrible news. Her cancer had progressed to Stage IV Breast Cancer and had spread to her lungs, bones and lymph nodes.
Karen decided that she was going to beat her cancer right then and there. She has launched a new blog that chronicles her fight with breast cancer. It is called, appropriately enough, Fighting Breast Cancer and can be found at www.fighting-breast-cancer.com
